The Sydney Tower is the tallest free-standing structure at 305 metres above the CBD. This is open to the public and a prominent tourist attraction. The CBD is an area of very densely concentrated skyscrapers and historic buildings, interspersed by several parks including the Royal Botanic Gardens.
These gardens are in a beautiful setting on the edge of Sydney Harbour, offering views, shade and tranquility.
The Sydney Opera House is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most distinctive and famous 20th century buildings with its large pre-cast concrete ‘shells’ forming the roofs. Everyone knows the Sydney Harbour Bridge, often referred to lovingly as ‘the coat hanger’ because of its arch-based design. It’s the widest long-span bridge in the world and the highest steel arch bridge, with the top standing 134 metres above the harbour.
Wharf 8 is the Darling Harbour Passenger Terminal in the heart of the city, servicing the growing cruising market.
Darling Harbour on the western edge of the CBD is renowned for large public recreational facilities with restaurants and markets and attractions such as the Entertainment Centre, Powerhouse and Maritime Museums, and the Sydney Aquarium.

The Rocks is the oldest area of Sydney and has undergone amazing changes from the first European settlement in 1788. The historic brick and stone buildings have been preserved and there is a fusion of modern amenities in a valued, old setting providing restaurants, bistros, pubs, souvenir shops, markets and music.
Taronga Zoo is located on elevated land along the waterfront of the Sydney Harbour, offering magnificent views back towards the city. The zoo is home to 2,600 animals and set on 28.7 hectares of land, making it one of the largest of its kind.
