Perth City Tote

Perth is the pulsating, vibrant Capital City of Western Australia, boasting scenic splendours combined with arts, culture and dining.  Founded in 1829, the city was part of the Swan River Colony, the first free settlement in Australia.

In the heart of the city are first class attractions, shopping centres open 7 days a week, magnificent foreshores and the never ending activity on the Swan River, however take some time to discover the classic and historical Art Deco buildings scattered throughout the CBD.

Sides 1 and 2

Central Park Tower is the tallest skyscraper in Western Australia, completed in 1992. The roof of Central Park is 226 meters above the ground and the tip of the spire is 249 meters above the ground. The tower is a square with various triangular wings on opposite sides. The triangles drop off the cross section at various heights, giving it a distinctive multifaceted look. The facade consists of aluminium panels and reflective glass.

BankWest Tower is the second tallest skyscraper in Perth, 214 metres about the ground and the antenna 247 metres above the ground, and was built by the Bond Corporation during the mid 1980’s. The tower has a cross section in the shape of a right triangle, with a series of bay windows on the hypotenuse. This maximizes the number of corner offices.

Kings Park, named in honour of King Edward VIII in 1901, is visited by millions of people each year.  Covering 406 hectares in size and located adjacent to the Swan River and approximately 1.5 km from the CBD, it is the perfect place for relaxation, inspiration and recreation.  It showcases an outstanding collection of Western Australian flora and two thirds of the park is natural bush land.

The Narrows Bridge runs over the Swan River at "The Narrows" between Mt Eliza and Mill Point, connecting the northern and southern suburbs of the city. The first bridge was opened in 1959, but due to Perth's increasing traffic volumes, a new bridge was built immediately west of the existing bridge and opened in 2001, effectively doubling its carrying capacity. A third bridge for the Southern Suburbs Railway was built in 2006 in the 6 metre gap between the existing structures.

The Swan River, right at Perth's doorstep, was named in 1797 by the Dutch explorer Willem de Vlamingh, who was impressed by the many black swans, which he observed upon its waters. The banks of the Swan were the site for the first settlement.

Burswood Casino is located on the Swan River, five minutes from the CBD. The complex includes a 24hr Casino, seven restaurants, seven bars, a multi-story nightclub, two international hotels in the luxury 5 star InterContinental Perth Burswood and the 4 star Holiday Inn Burswood, a state-of-the-art Convention Centre, the Burswood Theatre and Burswood Dome. It opened in December 1985, but other stages were not completed until 1987. At the time it was Australia’s largest casino.

Swan Bells Tower is one of the world’s largest musical instruments, and the 82.5 metre tower was constructed to house the bells, one of the few sets of royal bells to have left England. There are three main viewing levels in the tower.  The bell ringing viewing level, the belfry level where you can see historic bells and displays about the architecture, and thirdly the observation deck offering spectacular views over the river and city.  The bell ringing demonstrations are not a mechanical feature.
